Sharing a Love of the Arts With Future Hockadaisies

Godbolds The Hockaday School is honored to have received a generous gift from the estate of longtime supporter, friend, and alumna Patricia Murphy '42JC and her husband, Bryghte D. Godbold, Ph.D. The estate gift of more than $1 million will establish the Pat Murphy '42JC and Bryghte D. Godbold Financial Aid Fund, which will support Hockaday's financial aid program.

The Godbolds' fund will support young women interested in the creative arts. It will not only provide financial assistance for tuition, but will help enhance students' study of the arts through private lessons, summer abroad experiences, travel programs, or other applicable, approved creative arts programs.

Pat and Bryghte were always interested in education. In order to continue to improve young women's educational opportunities, the Godbolds decided to include Hockaday in their estate. Known as a bequest, the Godbolds' gift in their will is the largest bequest made to the School during Hockaday's Centennial Campaign. Hockaday will honor the Godbolds' legacy through the careful management of this endowed fund.

Patricia Murphy Godbold was born in Dallas and attended Hockaday Junior College from 1940 to 1942. As a student, she served as President of the Student Council and as Editor of Taps, the junior college yearbook. As an alumna, Pat was very supportive of the School, giving her time, energy and resources to the next generation of Hockadaisies. For many years Pat was a regular fixture at several Hockaday events and programs, including Alumnae Day and Sweetheart Tea.

Bryghte, a retired Brigadier General in the United States Marine Corps, was the former Executive Director of the Goals for Dallas program. He valued education and dedicated himself to his community.

Together, Pat and Bryghte enjoyed traveling and volunteering their time to numerous charitable organizations in Dallas.

The Godbolds' bequest is a phenomenal example of how two passionate individuals can make a significant impact on Hockaday and its students for decades to come. By providing for the School in their estate plans, their vision for Hockaday's continued excellence is closer to being realized.
